COMPARISON WITH METALLIC BELTS

Nowadays the use of metallic belts has been relegated just practically to applications at very high temperatures.
The modular belts differ clearly from them due to their lower weight, and greater easiness for cleaning and elasticity.
In fact the modular belt is much lighter and its drive system has nothing to do with the complex and heavy driving drums of friction or with the noisy chain sprockets used by the metallic belts.
Easier to clean. The vertical holes in the modular belt surface make possible the removal of debris by means of air or water under pressure. For cleaning the metallic belts it is necessary the use of manual sharp tools.
The elasticity of the metallic belts is much more limited than that of the plastic modular ones, so that the metallic belts can exceed easily their elasticity limit and remain permanently deformed.
You can see in the photo how the belt has got deformed, so that the transport surface has became irregular and unstable which can lead the lumps of sugar to get in touch and to get dry together, being rejected later on by the quality control.
In most cases the only solution for repairing the metallic belts is their total replacement. On the other hand, the greater breakage you can imagine in a modular belt will be solved by replacing the broken modules for some spares.
