One of the main Mexican companies in chicken production, with a solid presence in Mexico, USA and Latin America, was facing serious problems with its conveyor belts, especially with one located in the live chicken hanging area, at the exit of the stunner, designed for cleaning in acetal material. This belt, which is one of the most important in the factory as it is at the beginning of the whole production process, had to be replaced every 3 or 4 months due to wear and tear of the modules. Moreover, during those 3 or 4 months it generated costly production stoppages and required intensive maintenance, including the replacement of broken modules, daily surface cleaning and constant adjustments, as the belt stretched and stopped gearing correctly.
Main problem
Belt wear caused unexpected downtime, interrupting production and costly maintenance work. The belt stretched, broke and required constant effort to tension it and replace damaged modules.
The Eurobelt Solution
Eurobelt proposed a testing of its new generation of Quickbelts with no hinge rods specifically designed for better cleaning and to withstand extreme conditions such as those mentioned above, reducing wear and tear and eliminating the problems of stretching and module breakage.
Results that speak for themselves
- Superior durability: During the 1.7 year, the Quickbelt did not suffer from stretching or breakage of its modules.
- Significant cost reduction: While the previous belts were changed every 3 to 4 months, the Quickbelts remained operational for 19 months without any significant failures. This represented a saving of almost 5 belts compared to the previous system.
- Zero breakages, zero undesired downtime: All production losses due to unexpected weekly line stoppages were eliminated, as well as the costs of accessories and labour for such maintenance.
- Reduced maintenance: Although the belt received a daily surface cleaning, it was not necessary to disassemble it for deep cleaning, which considerably reduced downtime. Sanitisation costs were reduced by approximately 50% in terms of soaps, disinfectants, water and labour.
The installation of Quickbelts not only increased the durability of the conveyor system, but also reduced operating costs by reducing the frequency of maintenance and replacement. This resulted in increased operational efficiency for the company, with more stable production and no interruptions or downtime.
